Is It Safe For My Child To See The Dentist During COVID-19? Our Safety Precautions

If your child needs dental care in Jupiter, you may be worried about their safety, and whether or not they can see the dentist during the COVID-19 outbreak. At The Little Royals: Dentistry for Kids, Dr. Sal, and Dr. Yasi are taking every possible precaution to make our office a safe, comfortable place for your child to get the dental care they need. Here are a few of the ways we’re prioritizing safety at our office.

Social Distancing Precautions

We ask that you bring only one child for an appointment at a time, if possible, to help reduce the number of people in our office. In addition, we have removed all toys, pamphlets, magazines and other items from our waiting area, and have reconfigured it to allow patients to maintain at least 6 feet of distance from each other while waiting for their appointments.

Enhanced Emphasis On Hand Sanitation

We have always followed all mandated hand sanitation precautions, such as hand washing before and after treating a patient, before and after removing gloves, and after touching any equipment or surface that may be contaminated. However, we have redoubled our efforts to maintain proper hand hygiene, as the CDC has emphasized its importance in minimizing the spread of COVID-19.

Use Of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

All of our staff members will be wearing masks, and we ask that patients wear masks until their appointment begins, if possible. Our dental team will be wearing PPE like masks, eyewear, gloves, and face shields. To reduce the risk of spreading infectious pathogens, all used PPE is left behind in the operatory where it was used for proper disinfection or disposal.

Proper Respiratory/Cough Etiquette

COVID-19 primarily spreads through saliva droplets, so we are following all recommendations for cough and respiratory etiquette. This includes sneezing and coughing into the elbow, properly disposing of used tissues, and sanitizing the hands as well as any surfaces that may have been exposed to respiratory secretions.

Sterilization And Disinfection Of All Dental Equipment

We follow all OSHA, CDC, and ADA guidelines for cleaning and sterilizing reusable dental equipment between uses, and using monitoring tools to ensure that the equipment has been cleaned properly. We maintain complete sterilization records that meet all local and state regulations.

Enhanced Cleaning In Operatories & Common Areas

We have begun wiping down all hard surfaces of our operatories between patients after each appointment in order to sterilize them and minimize the risk of cross-contamination between patients. Additionally, we are cleaning and disinfecting all commonly-touched surfaces (door handles, counters, bathrooms, tables, chairs, etc.) with EPA-registered disinfectant products to further minimize the spread of any infectious pathogens.
